I was at a monthly networking event for the Northern Colorado Entrepreneur's Network on Thursday and saw this amazing presentation by this company, Tough Stuff that is doing some amazing things that everyone should make note of. Kami, Todd, Russ, everyone - a resource for you to aware of and share with others you are networking with.

As it says in my discussion title, these folksprovide very affordable solar-powered products for low income people, replacing expensive and environmentally damaging alternatives - very actionable ideas here, it strikes me.

They are based in Madagascar but they have their marketing arm in Boulder.

Last weekend I was selling bags at the Boulder Creek Festival and I went over and talked to a solar company. Africa is the perfect place for solar!

I will contact them. I have been talking with a GSSE group from CSU that has some of this stuff. They get their product from India. I will contact this group. A solar powered cell phone charger could be a micro-business for someone in Malawi.

I agree with you.Cell phones are almost everywhere in Malawi. But folks have to walk long distances in order to have then charged.

Thanks so much for this information. Assisting with solar power in our partner orphanages and schools has been a topic within our organization for some time now. Even though we try to remain fairly strictly focused on educational support, it seems solar power is such a logical solution to so many problems in Africa ... logical but not simple, it seems. Thanks again for the info!
