Hi! I started a few businesses in Zambia near Chingola. We now employ about 40 people, mostly AIDS widows, making soap, baskets and ingredients for lip balm.
We have lots of plans for growth and love suggestions for new products!
I was hoping to participate in Girls Night Out, a holiday show and sale for a Boulder non-profit called The Parenting Place (http://www.boulderparenting.org/). They are looking for more, non-jewelry vendors and think that you would be a good fit if interested. Unfortunately, I will be in New York shopping for African fabrics and can't be there for the sale.
If you or someone from Sambah wants to man a booth, we could split the entry fee by sharing a table. I'd be happy to give a percentage of my sales to your school projects and/or to Sambah for working that evening. 10% will already be going to the Malawi Northern Region Women's soccer league to help the girls' teams get proper equipment.
Here are the details:
Thursday, November 13, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 pm
Rembrandt Yard in Boulder
$75 per vendor (bring your own table and linens- one table per vendor I believe)
100% of sales goes to artist (they raise money with ticket sales, silent auction and booth fees)
Optional donation for the auction
Deadline to participate is Monday, Oct. 13th
If you want to participate or have more questions you can contact Lisa Hainline (hainlinefamily@comcast.net) with The Parenting Place.

Hi Andre! Thank you! I would love to check out the presentation. I also would like to get some information from you. I really could you use your help with what to teach elementary schools about Africa. Do you have any guidance regarding this? Thanks, Holly (hollypetitt@comcast.net)
Hello Andre! It was great to meet you the other night! Thanks for sharing all the wonderful information with us. I would love to talk with you some more about your school fundraising programs. Drop me an email at hollypetitt@comcast.net when you have some time and maybe we can chat. Hopefully we will see you on Saturday at the African Extravaganza!?

OK, so we have 45 people that are coming to the benefit dinner so far, and 2 are Jeremy and I. If you are available August 9th please consider coming. If you know anyone that lives in the Northern Colorado area please tell them about it.
HI Todd,
Our lip balm, Zambeezi, we mainly sell in stores, the soaps we sell through school fundraisers, we do some events too, but not many so far. (we would love to do more)
We share profits, actually we are two companies, we donated the production equipment to our Zambian partners and taught them how to produce. We helped them set up a Zambian company. So officially we do not employ them at all but simply do business with them. We feel it is better if they own their own production capacity. We are a for profit but we work closely with a non-profit, so far we have donated all profits.
It's a great thing you have started here! We would love to get together whenever you have time.
If you would like to sell our soap, gift baskets, or lip balm (and soon we'll be making candles) at festivals we would love to work something out!
Do you mainly sell in retails stores or do you do one time events?
My wife and I started Africa Bags and attend a lot of festivals, shows and fairs selling our products.
I would like to talk with you more about what you are doing at some point. We are getting ready to go to Malawi soon so we are getting a little busy but I would be interested in getting together at some point.
Do you pay your workers a salary or do you share in the profits as well. Are you a non profit?
